Rubio and Lavrov had a phone conversation about the war in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The main topic of discussion was the situation related to the war against Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
According to Moscow’s statement, the American official allegedly expressed “condolences” in connection with the explosions at railway infrastructure facilities in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, which, according to the Russian side, resulted in civilian casualties.
“The Russian side emphasized that the competent authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, and the results will be made public in the near future. Those responsible will be identified and punished.”, — said the Russian agency.
The parties also touched on the topic of possible initiatives for the political settlement of the conflict, in particular “plans to resume direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul on June 2.”
In the US State Department confirmedthat the conversation took place at the request of the Russian side.
“Secretary of State Rubio reiterated President Trump’s call for continued direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to achieve lasting peace”, – says the message.
