Russia has deployed 50,000 soldiers to Sumy region, which is three times the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: The Wall Street Journal

Russia has concentrated about 50,000 troops in the Sumy area — three times more than the number of Ukrainian forces in the area. The regional center of Sumy Oblast has become a new target for Moscow, and currently Russian troops are 20 kilometers from the city, informs The Wall Street Journal.
“The Russians will probe at various points along the line and then attack with full force when they find a vulnerable spot, as they did in Sumy Oblast last month. This forces Ukrainian commanders to play ‘mole strike’, sending in elite units to help close the gaps.”, the message says.
At the beginning of the month, Ukraine sent military intelligence forces to help, in particular elite units, which made it possible to stop the enemy’s further advance in the region. Ukrainian troops even returned some positions. However, the task remains difficult, because the numerical advantage of the opponent is significant.
“Their numbers are a big problem for us, although not enough to defeat us. The enemy is losing 300 to 400 men a day across the region. But they can handle such losses. They keep bringing in reserves.” – explained Kappa, commander of the “Chimera” unit.
For six months, while Ukraine controlled part of the territory in Russia’s Kursk region, the military involved in those battles expected Ukrainian forces to strengthen their defenses on their side of the border after retreating.
However, after a disorderly and costly retreat from Kursk, they encountered antiquated trenches that were not immune to drone attacks. In many cases, soldiers have to dig trenches directly under drone strikes. The fighters also reported that the territories where the Russians are currently advancing were not mined in advance.
