Russia moves reserves from eastern Ukraine to Kursk Oblast: ISW

The Russian command is transferring reserves from the Siversky, Kramatorsk, and Kurakhiv directions to the Kursk region, reported in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
ISW analysts cited information from Ukrainian military expert Kostyantyn Mashovets, who noted that Russian forces are redeploying an airborne regiment and a reconnaissance battalion of the 106th airborne division from the Siver and Kramatorsk directions, as well as one self-propelled artillery division of the 20th brigade from the Kurakhiv direction.
In addition, ISW reports that against the background of Ukrainian offensive operations in the Kursk region on September 8, Russian troops carried out counterattacks in the area.
Ukrainian forces continued to carry out attacks in the following directions:
- southwest of Korenevo near Snagost and Vishnevka;
- north-west of Suja near Mala Lokna;
- north of Suzhi near Maryivka;
- northeast of Suzhi in the Martynivka district;
- southeast of Suzhi near Cherkasy Konopelka.
Russian forces, in turn, counterattacked:
- near Korenevo;
- to the east of Korenevo near Olhovka;
- southeast of Suja near Cherkasy Konopelka.
The spokesman of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, noted that the operation of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region allows the construction of fortifications directly on the border with Russia in the Sumy region, which until now was impossible due to Russian shelling.
Ukrainian troops also continue to attack Russian land lines of communication in the rear areas of the Kursk region. On September 8, footage appeared showing the Ukrainian military destroying a bridge over the Seim River north of Karizh in the Glushkiv district.
Regarding Russia’s losses in the Kursk region, last week the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced that Ukrainian forces control about 1,300 square meters. km of territory, including hundreds of settlements. During the first month of the operation, Russian troops lost about 6 thousand soldiers killed and wounded. Zelensky emphasized that thanks to the operation in the Kursk region, the threat of a new Russian offensive on Sumy has disappeared.
The President called on the international community to work towards the end of Russian aggression and the restoration of the international security order this autumn.
