Sandu claims large-scale voting irregularities during elections and referendum in Moldova

The candidate for the position of president of Moldova and the current head of state, Maya Sandu, made a statement about large-scale falsifications in the presidential elections and the referendum on the country’s European integration. During a speech at his headquarters, about which informs “European Truth”, Sandu stressed that there is ample evidence of vote buying, which, she says, is “a fraud of an unprecedented scale.”
Sandu stressed that the attempted bribery had been going on for several months, and that behind it were criminal groups, as well as foreign forces that tried to influence the elections and the referendum. She said that these forces “attacked our country with tens of millions of euros, lies and propaganda”, indicating serious foreign interference.
These accusations are supported by the statements of the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova Cristina Gerasimova, who previously reported that Russia spent about 100 million euros to disrupt the presidential elections and the referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
Voting results
As of the morning of October 21, the Central Election Commission of Moldova processed 97.88% of the ballots. According to preliminary data, Maya Sandu received 41.84% of the votes, which puts her in first place among the candidates. In second place is Alexander Stoyanoglo, who won 26.35% of the votes. Since no candidate received more than 50%, it is likely that the country will go to a second round of elections.
Regarding the referendum on Moldova’s European integration, the situation remains difficult. According to the CEC, at the time of processing 97.97% of ballots, 49.87% of voters support the country’s accession to the EU, while 50.13% voted against. The results of the referendum continue to fluctuate, reflecting deep divisions in society over the issue.
