Valeria Marquez, a well-known 23-year-old blogger who had 200,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram, was shot and killed in Mexico during a live broadcast on TikTok.
The tragedy happened in the beauty salon where she worked, informs The Guardian.
The case is being investigated as a femicide — the killing of a woman based on gender hatred. According to the statement of the prosecutor’s office, the murder took place on Tuesday, May 13, in the city of Sapopan. The attacker entered the room where the girl was and fired a shot.
At the time of the attack, Valeria was streaming on TikTok. A few minutes before, she was sitting at the table, holding a soft toy in her hands.
During the broadcast it was heard:
“They’re leaving.”
After that, the video sounded:
“Hey Vale?”
“So”, – answered the girl and turned off the sound of the broadcast. A few minutes later, she was fatally wounded.
The live broadcast did not stop immediately. The camera caught the moment someone picked up the phone and a new face briefly appeared on the screen. The identity of this person is currently not disclosed by the investigation. In previous streams, Valeria shared that “someone came to her salon when she was not there, with an expensive gift.” She looked alarmed and indicated that she had no intention of waiting for this person to return.
