SBU detained a woman who wanted to blow up a cafe in the center of Kyiv

Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented another attempt at a terrorist attack organized by Russian special services in Kyiv. It was the evening of July 23 detained a woman who tried to plant explosives in one of the cafes in the center of the capital.

According to the investigation, she planned to leave two home-made explosive devices with a total capacity of about 1.5 kg in TNT equivalent in the room. According to the case file, the representatives of the special services of the Russian Federation intended to remotely detonate explosives during the evening rush hour in order to cause as many victims as possible.

SBU employees exposed the intentions of the saboteurs and detained the performer directly during the attempt to leave explosives in the institution. She had the devices in her bag. The investigation established that the woman, a resident of Kyiv, acted on the instructions of the Russian special services. She was misled into believing that she was following the instructions of the SBU, and on this basis they organized a terrorist attack under a “foreign flag.”

The security service is investigating the circumstances under which it received the explosive devices. It is documented that the performer received from the Russian curator the coordinates of the place where she was supposed to leave the explosives. During her detention, a mobile phone with evidence of communication with representatives of the occupation forces was seized from her. Currently, the process of determining the legal qualification of her actions is ongoing.

“Representatives of the Security Service do not hire people over the phone, do not offer to perform illegal actions and do not set dubious tasks. The SBU acts exclusively within the limits of the current legislation of Ukraine.”, – emphasized the SBU.
