SBU exposes former communists who wrote letters of gratitude to Putin and called for occupation of Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine exposed a group of former communists in Cherkasy who wrote letters of thanks to Putin and called for the occupation of all of Ukraine. About this informs press service of the department.
As a result of comprehensive measures, an underground group was neutralized, which, according to the investigation, was remotely coordinated by the former Communist People’s Deputy Petro Symonenko. At the request of the aggressor country, he formed a network, which included a former communist deputy, the former head of the city organization of the Communist Party, its secretary and an ideological functionary.
The investigation established that the members of the group publicly justified the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and the war crimes of the occupiers, in particular, the rocket attack on Okhmatdyt and the mass killings of civilians in Buch. They spread anti-Ukrainian narratives among local residents and openly supported the actions of the enemy.
In addition, those involved prepared letters to Putin in which they expressed their gratitude and called for the restoration of the USSR. They used the former office premises of the banned Communist Party in Ukraine to hold their meetings. During searches in Cherkassy and Kyiv, law enforcement officers found prohibited symbols, computer equipment and mobile phones containing evidence of criminal activity.
All four members of the group have already been charged with suspicion under parts 1, 2, 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its members committed by an organized group. The suspects face up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
