Since the beginning of the year, BEB analysts have predicted a waste of UAH 9.8 billion of budget funds

Since the beginning of this year, employees of the information analysis and risk management units of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) have prevented the waste of 9.8 billion hryvnias of budget funds. About this informs the BEB press service, noting a significant contribution to the protection of the state budget.
The Bureau of Economic Security actively works throughout the country, identifying violations and abuses during public procurement. For example, in Kyiv, BEB analysts discovered a risky tender for the overhaul of a hospital in the amount of 504 million hryvnias. This was only one of many cases where potential budget losses were prevented.
In Transcarpathia, BEB analysts discovered violations in the amount of 320 million hryvnias during the procurement of road maintenance services. Timely detection of these violations made it possible to avoid significant losses for the region’s budget.
A similar situation arose in the Odesa region, where BEB employees warned of the embezzlement of 316 million hryvnias intended for the reconstruction of social institutions. It was planned to carry out the reconstruction of the buildings of the maternity hospital in Odesa and the preschool in the Bereziv district of the Odesa region, which would cost 175 million and 147 million hryvnias, respectively. Thanks to the intervention of the BEB, these funds were saved.
In total, during the reporting period, BEB sent 541 recommendations to state bodies, local self-government bodies and other managers or recipients of budget funds to prevent budget losses. This emphasizes the importance of a systematic approach to control and analysis of public spending.
In addition to detecting violations in public procurement, BEB also actively works in the field of tax control. Analysts stopped the distribution of the risky VAT tax credit in the amount of 1.5 billion hryvnias and warned against the illegal refund of VAT in the amount of 800 million hryvnias.
BEB analysts also discovered a risky tender for the capital repair of a hospital in Kyiv worth UAH 504 million.
In general, during the procurement analysis, experts of the Bureau of Economic Security discovered and prevented the embezzlement of UAH 7.4 billion.
Investigating financial crimes became an important area of activity of the BEB, in particular, the well-known case involving businessman Igor Kolomoisky and the former head of the capital branch of one of the banks. They are accused of embezzling billions of hryvnias and legalizing income. The completion of this investigation was a significant achievement of the BEB in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
