Slovak Prime Minister Fico accepted Putin’s invitation to celebrate May 9, 2025 in Moscow

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will be the first representative of his country to visit Russia on an official visit after the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Next year, he plans to take part in the celebrations in Moscow dedicated to the end of the Second World War, which Russia traditionally celebrates on May 9. About this informs Aktuality edition.
Fico confirmed that he had received an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin and “with joy” accepted it. This visit will make him the first Slovak leader to officially visit the Kremlin since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Western leaders, in general, avoid visits to Moscow. However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with Putin in Moscow in July this year.
The Prime Minister of Slovakia emphasized the importance of the Red Army and the Soviet Union in the victory over fascism during the Second World War. He emphasized that the citizens of Slovakia with “deep respect” commemorate the anniversaries and events related to the liberation of the country by the Red Army in 1944-1945.
“That is why, in 2025, the Slovak government will undertake the organization of several events, which will culminate in the May celebrations of the victory over fascism. In the spirit of the above, it is natural that I, as the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, am extremely interested in participating in the official celebrations on the occasion victory over fascism, which will take place on May 9, 2025 in Moscow”, – explained Fizo.
