Slovakia wants to import Azerbaijani gas through the territory of Ukraine

The possibility of transporting Azerbaijani gas is part of the negotiations with the European Commission regarding the restoration of transit flows through Ukraine. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, informs enkorr.
Fitso noted that the possibility of transit of Azerbaijani gas through Ukraine with the help of swap operations was discussed during the negotiations. He also added that the Minister of Economy should discuss this issue in Brussels. Previously, Fico managed to have the issue of Ukraine’s termination of gas transit included in the conclusions of the summit of EU leaders, threatening to block any final declaration without this point.
In the end, the EU leaders called on the European Commission, Slovakia and Ukraine to “intensify efforts to find effective solutions to the issue of gas transit, taking into account the concerns expressed by Slovakia.”
We will remind that from January 1, 2025, Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas due to the expiration of the relevant agreement. Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Ukraine will not continue the transit of Russian gas, even if it concerns the transportation of fuel that formally belongs to “another country” and is supplied from the Russian Federation.
