Smelyansky, whose salary is 35 times higher than the president’s, was appointed by the government as the commissioner for customs reform
General Director of “Ukrposhta” Ihor Smilyanskyy published data on his salary for 2024, noting that he is a tax resident of the United States, and therefore pays taxes both in Ukraine and to the American budget. This is what he is about reported in your Telegram channel.
According to his information, the total income before taxation for the past year amounted to 11.7 million hryvnias. The average monthly salary, including additional payment for work with state secrets, amounted to 970 thousand hryvnias. At the same time, Smilyansky emphasized that starting in 2022, he voluntarily gave up the bonuses stipulated in the contract.
Of this amount, he paid more than 2.4 million hryvnias as taxes in Ukraine, and about 2.1 million more to the US federal budget, which, as Smilyansky emphasized, finances, in particular, military aid to Ukraine. Net annual income after taxes amounted to 6.9 million hryvnias — about $167,000 a year, or $13,900 a month. For comparison, the US president receives $400,000 a year.
Smilyanskyi also noted that the average salary of Ukrposhta’s production staff — postmen, drivers, operators — in 2024 has increased to 15,728 hryvnias.
Compared to other top managers of state-owned companies, the salary of the head of “Ukrposhta” is inferior. Thus, Serhiy Koretskyi, who headed Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta in 2024, received a total of 26.7 million hryvnias. The temporary head of “Energoatom” Petro Kotin declared more than 6.7 million hryvnias of income, of which 6.7 million are wages, and the rest are pensions. At the same time, Acting Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz Roman Chumak declared his annual salary in the amount of 18.36 million hryvnias.
For comparison, the salary of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, is 28,000 hryvnias per month — only 336,000 hryvnias per year. The head of state did not receive any bonuses or allowances. After paying taxes in the amount of 66,500 hryvnias, Zelenskyi received 269,500 hryvnias “cleanly”. Thus, Smilyansky’s annual income exceeds the president’s salary by 35 times, but is 2.3 times less than Koretsky’s.
In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its meeting on December 3 decided to appoint the general director of “Ukrposhta” Ihor Smilyanskyi as the government commissioner for customs reform.
