Sony massively blocks accounts of Russian users on PlayStation

Russian users are massively reporting the blocking of PlayStation accounts, especially those registered in other regions — Turkey, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, etc. This is reported by the Russian mass media.

Sony takes these measures to counter bypassing regional restrictions — particularly when users try to access a PS Plus subscription that isn’t officially available in Russia. Russians whose accounts have been blocked are trying to contact PlayStation support, but to no avail. The most common problems are those using purchased accounts – Sony checks IP addresses to confirm the region.

“The most adequate explanation is that Sony calculated a certain part of the data centers and IPs of ControlID, Windscribe and other services used for the purchase, and banned all accounts that interacted with these addresses. We cannot find other criteria and features, except for the date of creation.” – says the message.

The number of complaints about such cases is constantly increasing. It is reported that some users have had their accounts with games for significant amounts blocked. After the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sony officially left the Russian market. In 2022, it completely stopped selling consoles and access to PlayStation services in the Russian Federation.
