‘I have spoken out clearly on this issue”: Burbock explains why Germany is not giving Ukraine Taurus missiles

The head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Berbock, publicly commented on the disagreements in the government regarding the transfer of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. In her statement, made during the broadcast on the ARD TV channel, she confirmed her support for the use of such weapons for Ukraine’s self-defense, in particular for demining the eastern territories.

“I have always said that long-range weapons play an important role, especially in order to overcome this mine belt in the east of Ukraine.”, – quotes Burbock ntv.

The minister also noted that although she expressed her position on the issue, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has a different view. She explained that in a democratic coalition, if there is no unity of opinion on a certain issue, no decisions are made.

“And in a coalition – in a democratic coalition – if you cannot agree on this issue, then you cannot support it. This is what the Americans, the British and the French do.”, – she noted.

Currently, Ukraine is actively calling on international partners to allow it to carry out long-range strikes on Russian territory, in particular on military bases and airfields, from where the Russian Federation is shelling Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian authorities are trying to get permission from the US to use ATACMS missiles, and from Great Britain – Storm Shadow missiles.

However, despite these calls, Olaf Scholz continues to insist on his negative attitude to the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine, which emphasizes the existence of an internal debate in the German government regarding military aid to Ukraine.
