South Korean court rejects demand for impeachment of prime minister

On March 24, the Constitutional Court of South Korea considered the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Deok-soo. This comes months after ousted President Yoon Seok-il declared a short-term martial law. About this informs Yonhap.
According to the results of the proceedings, the court ruled in favor of Prime Minister Han Dok-soo, canceling the impeachment and restoring him to the position of acting president. The decision was made with a score of 5 to 1 among eight judges. Two of them advocated the complete rejection of the motion for impeachment.
The court heard the case three months after the National Assembly impeached the acting president. The reason for this decision was his alleged involvement in the imposition of martial law on December 3, as well as other accusations.
It will be recalled that on December 3, the then president of South Korea, Yoon Seok-il, introduced martial law, but the reasons for his announcement were political, not related to a military threat.
Hours later, the country’s parliament met and passed a resolution calling for martial law to be lifted, effectively obliging the president to withdraw his decree. Less than two weeks later, the parliament supported the impeachment of Yoon Seok-el, and by then he had already been searched.
