A doctor from Germany was charged with the murder of 15 palliative patients

Prosecutors in Berlin have charged a doctor with 15 counts of murder on suspicion of administering lethal doses of drugs to palliative care patients under his care. About this informs Reuters.

According to information, prosecutors are seeking a lifetime ban on professional activity for the 40-year-old suspect, who has been in custody since August 2024. The doctor worked in several federal states of Germany.

The name of the suspect has not been released due to restrictions under German data protection law. The prosecutor’s office reported that the man does not recognize the charges brought against him.

Initially, he was linked to four fatal cases, which, according to the investigation, he tried to cover up by setting fire to the apartments of the victims. However, a further investigation, which is still ongoing, revealed additional deaths starting in 2021. The number of victims may rise.

A separate investigative team was created to work on the case, which is currently analyzing the medical records of the doctor’s patients. New exhumations are also planned. According to prosecutors, the suspect administered anesthetics and then muscle relaxants to his patients — without their knowledge or consent — when they were not actively dying.
