Global shipments of x-smartphones in the 1st quarter of 2024 increased by 7.8%

According to preliminary data from IDC, global shipments of x-smartphones in the 1st quarter of 2024 increased by 7.8%, and on an annual basis – to 289.4 million units. Such growth has been recorded for the third quarter in a row, which indicates the recovery of the market after two years of decline.
At the same time, China’s Xiaomi increased its shipments by a third, while the Transition brand recorded growth of almost 85%, rising to fourth place among the world’s largest smartphone suppliers. At the same time, Samsung reduced its sales by 0.7% in annual terms, and at Apple they fell by 9.6%.
Vice President of Worldwide Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers Ryan Rieth said:
“As expected, the recovery of the smartphone market continues against the background of gradually increasing optimism about leading brands. Apple took the lead at the end of last year, but Samsung successfully regained its lead in the first quarter.”
IDC analysts predict that Samsung and Apple will continue to dominate the upper price segment, but note the high potential for further growth and diversification of such brands as Xiaomi, Huawei, vivo, Transsion and OPPO/OnePlus.
