Switzerland clarifies position on China’s ‘peace plan’: no agreements signed

Recently, there were reports that Switzerland allegedly supported China’s “peace plan” for Ukraine. However, now the country’s official representatives assure that their position on conflict settlement has not changed. This was stated by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine Felix Baumann v interview agency “Interfax-Ukraine”.

Baumann emphasized that Switzerland did not sign any documents and did not join the communique that was adopted after the meeting between China and Brazil held last week at the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Secondly, we were at the meeting, but as observers. And the third important point: Switzerland has not changed its position.”, – noted Baumann.

According to him, Switzerland continues to firmly stand on the fact that any “peace initiative” must fully comply with international law, the UN Charter, and also respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

The ambassador also noted that Switzerland considers it important to discuss the issue of peace even during the war, which leads to enormous human losses and suffering. That is why, as Baumann explained, the country decided to participate in the meeting as an observer, which was initiated by China and Brazil.
