Vance criticized Zelensky for making a statement about Russian narratives in the US government

US Vice President JD Vance criticized the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky for his statement about the presence of Russian narratives in the US government. Vance emphasized that the US is only trying to understand the “strategic goals” of Russia, informs Unherd.
According to Vance, Zelensky’s statement about “Russian narratives” in the US power circles is “unproductive”.
“I think it is absurd for Zelensky to tell the government, which currently holds together his entire government and the military effort, that we are somehow on the side of the Russians,” Vance explained.
The vice president noted that he is trying to find out whether Ukraine wants to “get out of the conflict.” This is how he characterized the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.
“I also tried to apply the strategic recognition that if you want to end the conflict, you have to try to understand where both the Russians and the Ukrainians see their strategic goals. It doesn’t mean that you morally support the Russian cause or that you support a full-scale invasion.” – emphasized Vance.
We will remind that on April 14, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in an interview with CBS News that Russian narratives are widespread in the United States.
“How can you witness our losses and our suffering, understand what the Russians are doing, and still believe that they are not the aggressors, that they did not start this war? This speaks of the enormous influence of Russia’s information policy on America, on American politics and American politicians.” – noted Zelensky.
JD Vance has repeatedly expressed skepticism about the continued support of Ukraine by the United States. While still a senator, he voted against the American aid package for Ukraine in 2024.
In February 2025, Vance reacted sharply to Zelensky’s words about Donald Trump, accusing the Ukrainian president of “slander” and saying that he “regrets” his remarks. Then Zelensky noted that Trump may be in a “space of disinformation” created by Russia.
