Tesla plans to launch an unsupervised robotaxi in the summer of 2025

Tesla plans to launch a fully self-driving robotaxi without driver-supervisors in June 2025. Initially, the service will only be available in Austin, Texas, informs TheVerge.
Currently, the company’s taxis operate with supervisor drivers behind the wheel who can intervene if necessary. The new service will only use cars from Tesla’s own fleet, although Elon Musk previously promised that Tesla owners will be able to add their cars to the “Tesla network”. He compared the launch of the service to gradually entering the water.
“We just want to dip a toe in the water, make sure everything is OK, dip a few more toes, and our top priority is the safety of the public and those in the car.”, — noted Musk.
In a letter to shareholders, Tesla said that as of January, its customers had covered more than 3 billion miles in Supervised Full Self-Driving mode. The company considers this technology an important step towards full autonomy, but stresses that drivers should remain vigilant for now, as the system does not yet provide absolute independence. Tesla also plans to increase computing power for AI training in 2025 by more than 400%.
