The United States approved sanctions against the ICC over Netanyahu’s arrest warrant

The US House of Representatives has adopted a bill that provides for the introduction of sanctions against officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC). This was in response to the court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, informs CNN.

The document calls for a strong condemnation of these warrants, as well as sanctions for any attempt by the court to prosecute US citizens or its allies. The planned measures include the freezing of financial assets in the US and the cancellation of visas.

The US and Israel, which are not parties to the Rome Statute, have declared that they do not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. Netanyahu’s government called the court’s decision “absurd and anti-Semitic.” The bill was supported by 247 congressmen, including 42 representatives of the Democratic Party. In the Senate, where the Republicans have a majority, the document also has a high probability of approval.

It will be recalled that on November 21, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and the commander of the Hamas military wing, Muhammad Ad-Deif, accusing them of war crimes.

At the same time, the Netherlands and Great Britain have expressed their readiness to detain Netanyahu on these warrants if he appears on their territory.
