Thanks to interceptor drones, Ukrainian military shot down 33 Russian UAVs overnight

During Russia’s night attack on Ukraine on June 6, the Unmanned Systems Forces shot down 33 enemy drones using interceptor drones. The specified targets were destroyed by fighters of the “Clear Sky” project, reported Mykola Kalashnyk, head of Kyiv regional state administration.
According to him, the operators of “Clear Sky” already have 261 enemy drones neutralized in the air. The project itself was launched in the Kyiv region in response to mass attacks by Russian kamikaze drones. Defenders use interceptor drones that destroy enemy targets in the air – before they have time to hit civilian infrastructure or harm civilians.
In May, Mykola Kalashnyk announced the formation of new teams and the training of new interceptor operators, noting that the project is already beyond the boundaries of the Kyiv region and is expanding to other regions of the country.
“This is our direct response to the mass attack tactics of enemy kamikaze drones. Our defenders use interceptor drones to destroy the “shahedis” in the sky before they can harm civilians and infrastructure.” – noted the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
The forces of unmanned systems are actively developing this direction, because it is considered economically expedient. If one anti-aircraft missile can cost up to a million dollars, then an interceptor drone costs about 5 thousand. The development of such technologies is especially relevant, given the growth of drone production in Russia.
