Volodymyr Zelenskyi fired the head of the State Security Department

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Thursday, May 9, dismissed Serhiy Rudy from the post of head of the State Security Office of Ukraine. The relevant decree head of state No. 317/2024 published on the president’s website.

“Dismiss Rudy Serhiy Leonidovych from the post of head of the State Security Office of Ukraine”, – the document says.

Serhii Rud is a major general who has been in charge of the UDO since October 2019. Before him, this position was held by Oleksiy Otserklevych – after his dismissal, Zelenskyi gave him the rank of major general.

The reasons for the dismissal have not been officially announced.

On May 7 of this year, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the discovery of a network of agents of the Russian Federal Security Service who were preparing the assassination of the president, the head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyryll Budanov, and other high-ranking Ukrainian officials.

The special service noted that it exposed the agent network in advance with the assistance of the leadership of the State Security Office. According to the investigation, two colonels of this department “leaked” secret information to the invaders – they were detained.

The extras were informed of the suspicion of treason, committed under martial law, and preparation for a terrorist attack.
