The Cabinet of Ministers approved a bill that will strengthen the protection of the rights of drivers with disabilities

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a draft law aimed at strengthening the protection of the rights of drivers with disabilities, in particular veterans. About this informs Government portal.

It is about the draft law “On amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the use of benefits granted to drivers with disabilities”, which was initiated by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs. The document provides for the introduction of a single identification sign “Driver with a disability”, which will contain a QR code to confirm the person’s status. This approach will make it possible to more effectively control the use of preferential parking spaces and prevent their illegal occupation by persons who do not have the right to do so.

In addition, the draft law makes changes to the Law “On the Basics of Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities in Ukraine”. According to the new rules, parking lots must contain at least 10% of places designated for people with disabilities, but not less than one such place.

It is also proposed that disabled drivers or those who transport them carry documentation of their entitlement to benefits – either paper or electronic – as well as a new QR code badge. These provisions will be integrated into the Law “On Road Traffic”.

The document was prepared in response to and in close cooperation with the veteran community. Its provisions take into account the needs of veterans who have been disabled after injuries or concussions, but remain active, including driving vehicles. The next stage will be consideration of the draft law in the Verkhovna Rada.
