The director of Nirvana and Metallica music videos visited Ukraine to see the war in person

Famous American director and author of Nirvana and Metallica music videos, Samuel Bayer visited Ukraine to personally see the war and the struggle of the Ukrainian people. During the visit, he not only admired the scenery, but also met with military personnel and students.

Bayer came to Ukraine on invitation the head of the Cultural Forces, captain of the ZSU Mykolai Serha, whom he met in Los Angeles during the “Gratitude Tour” of the Cultural Landing in the USA.

“On April 17, he met with the students of the Kyiv National University of Theater, Cinema and Television named after I. K. Karpenko-Kary. Future Ukrainian directors had the opportunity to ask the famous American director questions about his work with world stars, about the peculiarities of his style and the prospects of American cinema.” – reported in the Cultural Forces.

After the meeting with the students, Samuel Bayer, together with the film crew of Cultural Forces, went to the east of Ukraine. He visited the frontline and de-occupied cities to support the soldiers of the Armed Forces and create a number of original video works.

“In his filming, the director focused on the consequences of Russian aggression: destroyed villages, destroyed schools, damaged churches. But above all, he was interested in people – their stories, pain and experience. He met with children who survived the occupation or were forced to flee from the war. For Bayer, the most important thing was not just to record the destruction, but to show the world a living, real Ukraine – through the fate of its citizens, through its struggle”, – noted in the press service of the Cultural Forces.

Famous actor Sean Penn also took part in the trip together with Bayer, who joined the process of filming the documentary video.

After returning from Ukraine, the director shared his emotions and noted that his heart was broken:

“Glory to Ukraine. I just got back from that beautiful country last night – I’ve made new friends and met some incredible people – I’m heartbroken to hear about missiles and drones targeting innocent civilians – that’s terrorism, not war.”
