The EU announced its readiness to stop gas transit from the Russian Federation through Ukraine

The European Union assures that it is ready for a possible termination of the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine. About this stated representative of the European Commission.
According to her, the European gas infrastructure has sufficient flexibility to ensure the supply of fuel from third countries via alternative routes to Central and Eastern Europe.
“The impact of the termination of transit through Ukraine on ensuring the security of EU supplies is limited”, – the message says.
Over the past year, the European Commission has worked together with EU member states to create alternative supply schemes. These efforts are complemented by measures to increase energy efficiency and the active implementation of renewable energy sources, which also increase the reliability of energy supply.
We will remind that the agreement between Ukraine and Russia on gas transit expires in 2024. Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine does not plan to renew the contract with Gazprom. He also emphasized that Kyiv will not agree to the pumping of Russian gas under the guise of Azerbaijani gas.
