Japan announces new package of sanctions against Russia

The Japanese government introduced new sanctions against certain individuals and legal entities in response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. About this informs The Japan Times.

Among those on the list are the head of Rostec, Volodymyr Artyakov, the CEO of the largest Russian diamond mining company, Alrosa, Pavlo Marynichev, as well as a citizen of North Korea, Rim Yong Hyok, who has ties to the country’s key arms trading company, KOMID.

In addition, the restrictions affected exports: 53 organizations from countries, including Russia and China, came under new export bans and additional measures. Since January 23, Japan has banned the export of another 335 goods to Russia, including small motorcycles and spare parts for special equipment, including cranes.

The purpose of these sanctions is to counter Moscow’s use of third countries to circumvent restrictions, as well as to respond to its support for North Korea. Chief Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Yoshimas Hayashi emphasized that these measures are aimed at strengthening international efforts to achieve peace.
