Azerbaijan extended the closure of land borders due to quarantine

In Azerbaijan, the special quarantine regime has been extended until April 1, 2025. The relevant resolution signed Prime Minister Ali Asadov.

Quarantine measures introduced in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, include the closure of land borders, which has been in effect since spring 2020. The Azerbaijani authorities have stated that they are ready to maintain the restrictions as long as necessary. President Ilham Aliyev noted that the decision to close the borders made it possible to avoid serious consequences of the pandemic.

Currently, entry into Azerbaijan is only possible by air, while foreigners and stateless persons can leave the country through land crossings. Despite the fact that the World Health Organization canceled the global state of emergency in May 2023, quarantine measures in Azerbaijan remain in force.

Ethnic Azerbaijanis living in Georgia and Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili have repeatedly stated the need to open land borders. But this initiative did not find support in Georgian society.
