The EU has allowed steel imports from Ukraine to be duty-free for another three years

The European Union decided to extend the preferential regime for the import of Ukrainian steel and iron for another three years. This will allow Ukrainian manufacturers to continue exporting their products to EU countries without quotas, duties and other restrictions. About this reported Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko.
Svyridenko called this decision “very timely”, recalling that the metallurgical industry of Ukraine is one of the most affected by a full-scale war.
“Part of the factories have been destroyed. Others are working on the edge. But they are holding on and need access to markets in order to save jobs, give foreign currency to the country and work for reconstruction.”, — said the minister.
According to her, in 2024, Ukrainian exporters will supply EU countries with iron and steel products worth more than 1.8 billion dollars, which is more than 3.4 million tons. In the first quarter of 2025, this indicator reached 422 million dollars — almost 800 thousand tons.
“The Commission will be able to adopt an implementing act on the suspension of this regulation for certain goods for a period of up to twelve months. The suspension decision will be taken in the event that the import of these goods from Ukraine increases to a level that significantly harms or threatens to harm the EU industry that produces similar or directly competing goods.” — explained in the Council of the EU.
