A new type of driver’s license will be introduced in Ukraine from August 1
Old driving licenses and registration certificates remain valid until the end of their validity period.
From August 1, 2024, service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine will start issuing new driver’s licenses and vehicle registration certificates with additional protection elements. About this reported head of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mykola Rudyk, on the live broadcast of the Kyiv24 TV channel.
New protection elements
The new forms will be equipped with enhanced security features, including:
- Special marking on the protective coating consisting of three letters and six numbers.
- QR code in the lower right corner of the certificate form, which will contain a link to the electronic service on the official website of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This service allows you to check the information entered in the certificate form and confirm its validity.
Advantages of the new protection
The introduction of new security elements will significantly reduce the risk of forgery of documents. The online service will also provide an opportunity to quickly check the legitimacy of the vehicle registration certificate.
Validity of old documents
Old driving licenses and registration certificates will remain valid until they expire. However, citizens, if they wish, can contact any convenient service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and exchange old documents for new ones.
