The EU may partially compensate Ukraine for the suspension of aid from USAID

The European Union is considering the possibility of partially compensating Ukraine for the suspension of aid from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the humanitarian sphere, for media and in reconstruction programs. About this stated European Economic Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis during a briefing in Kyiv.
According to him, the EU is closely monitoring the development of the situation in the USA, in particular regarding military and humanitarian aid.
“And really analyzing where, if necessary, we also have to close certain gaps”, – noted the European Commissioner.
Dombrovskis emphasized that the EU is currently the largest aid donor to Ukraine, far ahead of the United States.
“Regarding the financing and financial needs of Ukraine, according to the current scenario, 20 billion dollars have already been provided for this year. So from this point of view, we have very significant amounts of financing to support Ukraine this year.” Dombrovskis explained.
He added that the EU needs to strengthen its own defense capabilities and defense industry.
We would like to remind you that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which for a long time was the main donor of humanitarian aid in Ukraine, is currently in the process of large-scale changes. On January 27, 2025, USAID suspended funding of all projects in Ukraine in accordance with the directive of the US State Department to conduct a 90-day audit.
