The European Parliament condemned Russia’s attempts to falsify history to justify the war with Ukraine

The European Parliament passed a resolution condemning Russia’s actions in falsifying history. About this informs official website of the EP.
“In the resolution, the members of the European Parliament condemn the Russian regime’s systematic falsification of historical arguments to justify its illegal aggressive war against Ukraine”, – the message says.
The document was supported by 480 deputies, 58 voted against, and 48 abstained. In the text of the resolution, the European Parliament rejects attempts by the Russian regime to use history to undermine Ukraine’s national identity and justify aggression.
Russia’s refusal to admit responsibility for Soviet-era crimes and its obstruction of historical research and public debate are also condemned. Such actions, according to MEPs, contributed to the restoration of Moscow’s imperialist policy and the use of history for criminal purposes.
The European Parliament calls on the EU to strengthen the fight against Russian disinformation, in particular to more effectively coordinate efforts to counter information manipulation and interference.
In addition, the resolution includes calls to actively promote media literacy, support independent media, expand sanctions against Russian media that spread disinformation, and provide more support to independent Russian media in exile to ensure a diversity of voices in the Russian-language information space.
“Parliament is also deeply concerned by recent announcements by social media companies to relax fact-checking and moderation rules, as this will further enable the Russian disinformation campaign to spread globally. MEPs want the European Commission and EU member states to strictly enforce the law on digital services in response to these statements by Meta and X, particularly as an important part of the fight against Russian disinformation”, – emphasized in the EP.
