The funds are needed immediately: Ukraine expects to receive €1.9bn in EU aid

Ukraine expects to receive a new tranche of aid from the EU in the amount of €1.9 billion, which is to be financed from frozen Russian assets.
This was announced by Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov after a meeting with a delegation from the EU’s Political and Security Committee.
According to him, this €1.9 billion is ‘the money we need right now’.
‘We also hope that our partners will find an opportunity to allocate €6 billion from the European Peace Fund to strengthen the Ukrainian army at the front,’ the minister added.
During the meeting, Umerov also called on European countries to invest in manufacturing directly in Ukraine, emphasising its potential for developing the defence industry. He emphasised that Ukraine is ready to enter into long-term contracts, which will open up new opportunities for the joint production of drones, long-range weapons and ammunition. This approach will not only contribute to defence development, but also provide Ukraine with additional jobs and technological potential.
In addition, the minister stressed the importance of establishing cooperation in the production of strategically important equipment that can be used to defend the country. According to Umerov, European companies will have the opportunity to consolidate their positions in the Ukrainian market, and joint projects will strengthen the defence potential of Ukraine and Europe as a whole, which is important for the stability of the region.
