Children of war

The government has approved new programs to support children in wartime

War always causes the most pain to the most vulnerable categories of the population, including children. In the current conditions, it is especially important to provide support to children from low-income families and families of internally displaced persons. The government has decided to create programs that it believes will help provide children from low-income families and IDPs with basic needs, help them adapt to new living conditions, and support their development. One of such initiatives was the payment program within the framework of “Winter eSupport”.

Payments to children from low-income families and IDPs

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to make a one-time cash payment in the amount of 6.5 thousand hryvnias for each child from low-income families and families of internally displaced persons. About this reported Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the government meeting.

As Denys Shmyhal noted, this assistance is aimed at facilitating the passage of the winter period for such families. The money will arrive in December, which will allow families to prepare for the cold in time.

Payments are part of the “Warm Winter” program, which includes assistance for children to buy warm clothes, shoes and other things needed during the winter.

“During December, every low-income family, as well as IDP families, who have children or adults with disabilities of the 1st group, will receive 6,500 hryvnias for each child. These are funds for buying children warm clothes, shoes and other things that they need in winter “, – said Shmyhal.

Additional child protection measures

In addition to one-time payments, the government is working on improving other support programs. As part of the “Winter isSupport” program, the mechanism for receiving assistance through the initiative isMalyatko was simplified. Now parents who order delivery of birth registration documents to their place of residence will be able to use a more convenient and faster process. This is another step towards providing support for young families who give birth to children even in the difficult conditions of war.

Results of support programs in 2024

In 2024, child support programs continue to produce positive results. According to the government, about 36,000 families received baby boxes, and 126,000 families took advantage of the baby package reimbursement program. The total amount of these payments amounted to 974 million hryvnias. Such initiatives aim not only to ease the financial burden of young families, but also to promote care for children from the first days of their lives.

Aid to orphans

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to pay 1,000 hryvnias each to orphans. This monetary assistance will be paid before St. Nicholas Day, which symbolizes the care of the most vulnerable children during the holiday season.

State child support programs are vital in times of war. Thanks to these initiatives, low-income families, migrants and orphans receive the necessary assistance to meet their basic needs. Caring for children is an investment in the country’s future, and Ukraine continues to do everything possible to provide its youngest citizens with everything they need for a dignified life, even in difficult conditions.
