The Government of Ukraine has expanded support for farmers in frontline regions who work on irrigated lands

The Cabinet of Ministers decided to expand support for agricultural producers in the frontline regions who cultivate irrigated lands. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko.
“Today, the government made a decision to support farmers, stimulate the production of their own weapons, and simplify the provision of social services. The government will expand support for farmers in the frontline regions who work on irrigated lands.” — noted Svyridenko.
She explained that the state support mechanism for producers of agricultural products working on reclamation areas has been updated.
“We are expanding land reclamation to the frontline regions. This is a reaction to the consequences of the war, in particular the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, and the drought in the south”, she emphasized.
Svyridenko also reported that funding from the state budget will be directed to the construction and restoration of hydrotechnical infrastructure — pumping stations, canals, pipelines, etc. According to her, this will help to increase the irrigated area and strengthen the protection of agricultural crops.
At the same time, the southeast of Ukraine has been suffering from soil and atmospheric drought for a long time. Although some areas have received recent thunderstorms, they have not been enough to turn things around, with sunflower and corn crops that have been severely affected by the drought beyond recovery.
“There is no prospect of getting the planned crops, everything is on fire. Thunderstorms have passed in some places, but they will not affect the general situation. The April sunflower crops suffered greatly from the lack of moisture during the grain pouring period. The later crops are in somewhat better condition, but the plants are stunted. The corn is simply drying up in places.” — noted Serhii Kornyushenko, manager of agricultural technology development of the Southern region of LNZ Group.
