The government plans to introduce toll roads in Ukraine

The Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine has started an analysis of transport traffic on six key highways to determine the feasibility of introducing toll roads in the country. About this reported Deputy Minister Serhii Derkach. According to him, the creation of a toll road system is one of Ukraine’s obligations to the European Union.
“We already have a draft law on this issue, and we are working on its implementation. In order to build a high-quality road, it is first necessary to conduct an analysis of traffic intensity. Currently, such an analysis is being conducted on six highways in order to launch the mechanism of toll roads. We are negotiating with investors and we have preliminary agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB),” he noted.
Derkach emphasized that the final decision will be made based on the results of the analysis and the conclusions of experts. Toll roads, according to him, will mainly be used by heavy vehicles, and the collected funds will be directed to the development of road infrastructure.
“Ukraine will inevitably move to the introduction of a toll road system. It’s a matter of time, but sooner or later we will have such roads“, the deputy minister emphasized.
Transport expert Dmytro Bespalov supports the idea of toll roads for large vehicles. He also called to consider the possibility of attracting direct business investment to repair roads and maintain them in good condition.
