The Kremlin said that the talks in Istanbul are part of the preparation for the meeting between Zelensky and Putin

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmytro Peskov, said that the talks in Istanbul are part of the preparation for a potential meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.

“All the work that should be carried out regarding the agreement of the memorandums is the preparation of the leaders’ meeting. In this regard, yes”, — noted Peskov.

At the same time, he emphasized that it makes no sense to organize a possible meeting between Putin and Zelensky without “difficult” preliminary work. Peskov also said that during the next round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, in particular, it is planned to discuss draft memoranda from both sides regarding the settlement of the situation.

“The topic of the negotiations is quite complex, in addition to other issues, of course, it will be necessary to discuss the same draft memorandums that were exchanged during the second round”, – added Peskova.

The next round of negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul, Turkey is scheduled for 19:00 on July 23. Currently, the Ukrainian delegation has already left for Turkey. According to Russian mass media, a delegation from the Russian Federation also flew to Istanbul.

We will remind, on July 22, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation to participate in the negotiations in Istanbul on July 23. It was headed by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umyerov.
