The main condition for successful negotiations with the Russian Federation is a “strong Ukraine”: Volodymyr Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in an interview with “Ukrainian Radio” stated, which expects support from newly elected US President Donald Trump in any potential negotiations with Russia. Zelensky called a “strong Ukraine” the main condition for successful negotiations, which should have a strong position both on the battlefield and in the diplomatic context.
Zelensky emphasized that neutrality in such a situation is unacceptable for an international mediator, especially in conditions where values and justice are concerned.
“You can’t talk abstractly: I’m a mediator, so I can’t choose one side or the other. This cannot be the case with violations of international law“, he noted.
The President also emphasized the importance of the US continuing to support Ukraine’s position, recognizing Russia as an aggressor. Zelensky added that it is important for negotiations with Putin that Ukraine does not remain in a weak position, as such a situation will be a loss for the country and will not lead to a just peace.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the key condition of any negotiations should be the existence of a victory plan for Ukraine, which includes a number of elements that ensure the independence and security of the state. The president also emphasized that he expects Trump’s personal participation in the talks and considers it important that the discussions take place directly between the presidents.
“With all due respect to any environment. This is our level, the level of presidents. Everything must be in accordance with the law“, — noted Zelensky.
Before Trump’s inauguration, Zelensky emphasized, no official decisions can be made by his advisers. He emphasized that the meeting at the level of presidents, where Trump will already have all the powers, should be meaningful and prepared taking into account the national interests of Ukraine.
