The shadow sector of the Ukrainian economy amounts to 900 billion hryvnias per year: Hetmantsev

The shadow sector of the Ukrainian economy annually reaches 900 billion hryvnias. This was stated by the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Hetmantsev. informs Forbes Money.

“30–50% of the economy is in the shadow, and there are sectors where more than 60% is the main obstacle to the development of the economy. The level of the shadow in European countries is 5–7%”Hetmantsev noted.

According to him, in European countries, the level of the shadow economy is only 5-7%, so this situation in Ukraine restrains the development of the economy. Hetmantsev believes that the fight against the shadow sector can become one of the sources of additional funding for the army. According to his estimations, this year the fiscal authorities are able to provide revenues to the budget thanks to detinization in the amount of about 4 billion dollars.

“Such a task is before the tax office”, – emphasized the chairman of the finance committee.

In his opinion, detinization is not only a way to fill the state budget, but primarily a matter of creating fair and equal rules for all business. Before the full-scale invasion, the level of the shadow economy in Ukraine was estimated at 30%. The agency notes that warehousing, as well as postal and courier activities, were among the areas where some improvement was recorded at that time.
