The Ministry of Defense explained the consequences for students who do not pass the military training exam

The Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Serhiy Melnyk, said that basic combined military training (BZVP) will become a mandatory part of education for all students of higher educational institutions from September 2025. According to him, students who fail the exam or refuse to take the military oath will not be able to continue their studies at the institution. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Defense.

Melnyk emphasized that BZVP is an integral component of higher education.

“This is a mandatory element. If a student does not pass the preparatory exam or refuses to take the oath, he will not be able to continue his studies at the university.” – said the official.

Basic military training will last 300 academic hours and will consist of two parts:

  • The theoretical part (90 hours) will take place within the walls of educational institutions.
  • The practical part (210 hours) will take place in training units of the Armed Forces, specialized centers and other institutions.

Men are required to take both parts of the course if they are fit for military service due to their health. Women can join the practical part at their own request after a medical examination.

During the course, students will gain knowledge of tactical training, the basics of military discipline, first aid and working with weapons. Completion of training involves taking a military oath, obtaining a certificate and a military accounting specialty.

We will remind you that on January 15, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed draft law No. 12076, which regulates the mandatory implementation of BZVP for students of higher education institutions. This document also provides for amendments to the Law “On Military Duty and Military Service”.
