The Ministry of Defense has simplified the registration of information about dead, missing, and captured military personnel

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine continues to improve mechanisms for the protection of the rights of servicemen and their families. In particular, simplified procedures related to the documentation of cases of death, disappearance, capture or internment of military personnel during hostilities.

Corresponding changes are provided for by the Order developed by the Main Directorate for the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen. The document makes corrections to the Instruction on the organization of personnel accounting in the structure of the Ministry of Defense.

The order also systematizes and expands the list of data that military units must transfer to territorial recruitment and social support centers (TCC and SP), and those, in turn, to the families of servicemen. In the absence of evidence of wrongdoing, it is no longer necessary to conduct an investigation into the facts of disappearance, capture, death or internment of military personnel.

From now on, unit commanders can independently issue orders about established circumstances of such events without initiating an official investigation. The introduction of these changes will reduce the burden on headquarters, speed up the process of accounting for similar cases, inform families more promptly about events that happened to military personnel, and also minimize technical errors during the preparation of relevant documentation.

“This decision is a response to the real challenges that both military units and families of our defenders face every day. And we understand how important it is that the process of registration and transfer of relevant information is clear and prompt. That is why the Order was developed at the request of the Plenipotentiary of the President of Ukraine for the protection of the rights of military personnel and their family members, with whom we closely cooperate to strengthen the legal protection of our military personnel.” – explained the head of the GUZPV, Colonel Ruslan Tsygankov.
