The Ministry of Defense is investigating the supply of low-quality mines to the front

Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported, that an active investigation into the reasons for the supply of low-quality 120 mm mines to the front is ongoing. To ensure efficiency, the investigation is closed, as public disclosure could harm security.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, an analysis of the circumstances that led to the abnormal detonation of mines is being conducted for the third week. The agency emphasized that the lack of public statements does not indicate inaction, but is related to the need to maintain confidentiality due to the sensitivity of information in wartime conditions.

The Ministry temporarily suspended the use and delivery of ammunition from the specified batches to combat units until the causes of the defects are clarified. The suspect batch has been removed for research, and imported mines are being supplied instead.

A preliminary investigation by an interagency commission points to several possible causes of the defects, including poor-quality powder charges and improper storage conditions that could have damaged the ammunition. According to this fact, the State Bureau of Investigation has already opened criminal proceedings.

The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that it is the customer of this type of weapons for the Defense Forces, while the implementation of the state order is entrusted to the Ministry of Strategic Industries. The interdepartmental commission will conduct an inspection of mortar mines of other calibers to assess compliance with production standards, the quality of the components used, and their storage conditions.
