Women will be enrolled in the military only after completing basic training
Women who meet the requirements in terms of age and health and express a desire to undergo basic military service will be taken into the military registration of conscripts upon their application before being sent to such service. After completing basic military training, they will be enrolled as conscripts.
Appropriate bill No. 12076, submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers, provides for amendments to the Law “On Military Duty and Military Service”. It clarifies the specifics of placing Ukrainian citizens on military registration and the procedure for their medical examination before undergoing basic military training. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security recommended adopting the document as a basis.
The document also provides for the abolition of conscription from 2025 and the introduction of a new format – basic military service, which will become mandatory for men who are fit for health.
Women will have to undergo a medical examination before being sent to practical classes of basic military training. In addition, the draft law establishes that men under the age of 60 who have not completed basic training or military service (except for those unfit due to health conditions) will for the first time not be able to apply for positions in local self-government bodies.
The new changes are aimed at reforming the system of military registration and training Ukrainian citizens for the defense of the state, taking into account modern challenges and needs of national security.
