The Ministry of Economy and UNIDO signed an agreement to launch a green industrial recovery initiative with the support of Japan

Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliya Svyridenko and Deputy Director General and Managing Director of the Directorate for Corporate Services and Operations of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Yuko Yasunaga signed the agreement on the start of the green industrial recovery initiative of Ukraine. The initiative will be implemented with the support of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

“This initiative is focused on the development of key sectors that will contribute to the improvement of the qualifications of workers and the sustainable growth of the industry. Thanks to the strategic partnership with Japan and UNIDO, Ukrainian business will have access to advanced technologies and innovative solutions, will be able to modernize production and strengthen its competitiveness. This is an important step on the way to the recovery of our industry and the development of the economy of Ukraine.” – emphasized Svyridenko during the ceremony.

According to preliminary expectations, more than 30 thousand Ukrainians will be able to undergo training and acquire new skills, and more than 40 modern technologies will be implemented, adapted or tested in various areas of industry.

“This flagship project is unique both in terms of scale and concept, because it combines technology transfer, capacity building and creation of new businesses in cooperation between the private sectors of Ukraine and Japan. Thanks to UNIDO’s management experience and a wide network of partnerships in Ukraine and Japan, we will ensure impact in key industrial areas such as agricultural processing, circular economy, information and communication technologies, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, hydrogen, productivity improvement of small and medium-sized businesses, assistive technologies and telemedicine.” Yuko Yasunaga noted.

As part of the study of the feasibility of introducing innovations, almost 30 Japanese companies have already started cooperation with Ukrainian partners, testing new technologies.

“Environmentally clean and energy- and resource-efficient technologies and expertise possessed by Japanese companies can significantly contribute to overcoming many challenges and promoting the green reconstruction of Ukraine. I would like to note that many small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as startups in Japan, have already developed similar technologies and know-how.” Takako Tsujisaka, deputy general director of METI’s Department of International Trade Policy, emphasized.
