The Ministry of Economy explained the lack of direct security guarantees in the subsoil agreement

Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka explained, why there are no direct security guarantees in the subsoil agreement concluded between Ukraine and the USA. According to him, the economic interests of the United States, in particular in the Ukrainian subsoil, in themselves serve as an additional factor that will contribute to the preservation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“We have several tracks in our relations with the United States of America. It is a strategic partner. It cannot be reduced to one single document. We have economic security, investment, financial support, military support, political processes of some kind, diplomatic ones are going on. That is, it all worked properly in different dimensions. And therefore the principle of including all security guarantees in this agreement disappeared, because we understood their approach, they understood our desire, it started working properly” – said Kachka.
In his opinion, the fact that the agreement does not contain security guarantees does not indicate the defeat of Ukraine, because, as he noted, this issue remains open and will be considered in the future.
“No, by no means. These are parallel things. We figured it out among ourselves. The president (Voladymyr Zelenskyi) figured it out for himself. He sees how it will work. The whole issue has been settled properly, and that’s why we’re ready to move on. That’s why there’s nothing unfinished here either.”, – emphasized the Deputy Minister of Economy.
He added that to counter aggression, Ukraine needs weapons, new sanctions and increased pressure on Russia — and these elements are now reflected in the position of the United States. With the subsoil deal, the US joined efforts to find ways to a truce and deter further aggression.
