The Russian Federation caused almost €10 billion in losses to Kharkiv: Terekhov

The full-scale Russian invasion caused enormous damage to Kharkiv, currently estimated at around 10 billion euros. This was announced by the mayor of the city Igor Terekhov on the air of the national telethon on November 22. About this too reported press service of the Kharkiv City Council in Telegram.
Ihor Terekhov emphasized that this amount increases with each new shelling of the city, and currently the scale of the destruction is critical for the city budget, which is unable to cope with such expenses on its own. Therefore, Kharkiv is already actively working on finding financial sources for future reconstruction.
“We have a specific plan of action and are already starting to work with internal and external investors, with international foundations and financial institutions to make Kharkiv the most modern city after peace comes.” – noted Igor Terekhov.
The mayor also noted that the city’s economic development strategy, created with the participation of leading Ukrainian and international experts, including professors from Oxford and Harvard universities, was recently presented. This strategy should become the basis for the reconstruction of the city after the end of the war.
According to Terekhov, the strategy includes specific plans that provide for the support of human capital through educational and innovative projects, creating favorable conditions for investments in industry, the agricultural sector and high technologies, as well as reforming the legislative framework to attract investors. In addition, an important element is the greening of Kharkiv and the implementation of modern energy-efficient solutions.
Special attention in the strategy is paid to cooperation with international partners, which takes into account the needs of local businesses in the process of reconstruction. Terekhov expressed confidence that thanks to this strategy, Kharkiv will be able not only to restore its infrastructure, but also to become one of the most modern cities of Ukraine and Europe.
