Fraud in Ukraine: 20% growth in the first quarter of 2024

The number of fraudulent activities in Ukraine is growing rapidly. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, in the first quarter of 2024, 24,188 criminal cases were opened under Article 190 of the Criminal Code “Fraud”. This is 20% more than in the same period of 2023.

On average, 8,000 cases are opened per month this year, compared to almost 7,000 last year. For comparison, in 2021, this indicator was four times lower – 2,000. Only 3,422, or 14% of all registered cases, at the beginning of 2024 reached court More than 2,000 cases were closed. In the same period last year, only 10% of open proceedings came to the court, and in 2021 – 19%.

In general, 2023 became a record year for the number of fraud cases: 82,609. This is 2.6 times more than in 2022. Since 2021, there has been a steady increase in the number of fraudulent activities.
