The SBU explained the reasons for the imposition of sanctions against Poroshenko, Kolomoisky and others

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to introduce sanctions against a number of politicians and businessmen due to threats to national security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. About this reported Security Service of Ukraine.
As noted in the special service, most of the persons who have been sanctioned are already involved in criminal proceedings investigated by law enforcement and anti-corruption bodies. The restrictions are indefinite and concern five people: citizen of Israel Ihor Kolomoiskyi and citizens of Ukraine Hennadiy Bogolyubov, Kostyantyn Zhevago, Petro Poroshenko and Viktor Medvedchuk.
“Most of the specified sanctioned persons are currently involved in criminal proceedings, the pre-trial investigation of which is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine or other law enforcement or anti-corruption bodies.” – says the message of the SBU.
The agency reminded that Petro Poroshenko and Viktor Medvedchuk were previously suspected of treason, aiding the activities of a terrorist organization, and other articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
“According to the investigation, during the exercise of the powers of the President of Ukraine, the high-ranking official placed the state in energy dependence on the Russian Federation and the leaders of pseudo-republics controlled by it”, the SBU reported.
As for Ihor Kolomoiskyi, according to the SBU, he is suspected of legalizing funds obtained illegally and taking possession of other people’s property.
In turn, the ex-president of Ukraine and People’s Deputy Petro Poroshenko confirmed that he was under sanctions and called this decision “a colossal blow to internal unity.”
