The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Zhytomyr

The Security Service and the National Police prevented a terrorist attack that the special services of the Russian Federation planned to carry out in the center of Zhytomyr. The Russian agent, who turned out to be a teenager, intended to set off an explosion near the Alley of Glory to Heroes.  About this informs SBU press office.

“The Security Service and the National Police detained an enemy agent who, on the order of the Russian Federation, was preparing a terrorist attack in one of the most populated places in Zhytomyr – near the Alley of Glory to Heroes.” According to the case materials, a 16-year-old schoolboy from the Zhytomyr region, who was involved in criminal activities by the Russian special services in exchange for money, turned out to be an accomplice of the enemy. – the message says.

The investigation established that the juvenile performer planned to leave an improvised explosive device disguised in a backpack in the alley. The Russian curators intended to detonate the explosives remotely together with their agent. In this way, the Russian special services sought to achieve two goals: to stage a bloody terrorist attack with a large number of victims and at the same time to eliminate the perpetrator as an “extra witness”.

SBU counter-intelligence discovered this plan in advance and arrested the teenager “red-handed” when he was approaching the site of the planned explosion. SBU investigators are currently preparing a report of suspicion under 1 Art. 14, ch. 2 Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation to commit a terrorist act). The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
