The State Bureau of Investigation detained a serviceman who tried to sell weapons worth over 1.7 million hryvnias

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained serviceman and informed him of the suspicion of an attempt to illegally sell weapons worth more than 1.7 million hryvnias, which were on the balance sheet of his unit in the Donetsk region.
In April 2025, the soldier found a buyer through social networks and exchanged 26 grenades and 9 grenade launchers stolen from the unit for a drone. Later, this drone was sold to a civilian from the Kharkiv region for 40,000 hryvnias. After the first purchase, he tried to sell another 9 grenades and 3 grenade launchers for 65,000 hryvnias, but was detained by the DBR operatives.
As part of the investigation, the facts of the illegal sale of a total of 35 grenades and 12 grenade launchers belonging to his unit were documented. The estimated cost of this weapon is over 1.7 million hryvnias. The law enforcement officers seized all the weapons, including the one that had already been implemented, as well as the drone. After the completion of legal procedures, all seized items will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A military serviceman is charged with misappropriation of military supplies and explosives using his official position under martial law (Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), as well as carrying, purchasing and selling military supplies and explosive devices without proper permission (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). These articles are punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail. Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
