The State Bureau of Investigation has completed the investigation into officers who systematically stole fuel from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation completed pre-trial investigation of three officers of one of the military units in Donetsk region, who systematically stole fuel and lubricants from the Armed Forces.

The organizer of the criminal scheme was the commander of the material support battalion. He involved his deputy and staff officer in illegal activities. According to preliminary data, officials artificially created “surpluses” of fuel by entering into the documentation inflated figures of expenses for allegedly carried out departures of official vehicles. In fact, the cars either did not leave at all, or made much shorter routes than indicated in the documents.

The perpetrators sold the received “excess” fuel to civilians, and the proceeds were distributed among themselves. The actions of the officers were documented from September 2024 to January 2025. As part of the investigation, 8 tons of fuel were seized, which will be returned to the military unit.

The commander of the material support battalion and his accomplices are accused of theft of military property, committed by an organized group under martial law (Part 3, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 28, Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 15 years. Procedural management was carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
